SCRAM CITy

Scram City

concept:

This was a super fun project and a perfect example of how to do a lot with a little. Our client wanted to reach a different kind of enthusiast, aiming to connect with New York City's skate culture and show that their bikes aren't just cool but also affordable. But in a scene jaded by marketing pitches, we knew the approach had to be raw and authentic. So, rather than do our standard Arri or Sony digital cameras and make it look vintage in post, we opted for 25-year-old MiniDV cameras, capturing the grit and energy of the city in a style true to its roots. While ultimately saving the client many thousands of dollars in gear fees, it also provided an authenticating final product that we never would have achieved with modern cameras. For the photography portion, we shot everything on medium format film to keep with the authentic vintage style.

Partnering with Jerome Peel, we had a wild few days tearing through the city's streets, guerrilla-style, blending the worlds of bikes and boards. The footage is a chaotic – an honest portrayal of the bike, the brand, and NYC. Free from the slickness of polished marketing but no less considered. This project was a 1 day shoot we were able to do for under $6k!
